MARKETING STRATEGIES
(Partial list of duties
for advertising director)
Attention DentalPride
Team members & Dentists:
The following activities
are ways to help give our patients
the best treatment and
the most attention
- Develop a practice brochure.
Make sure the brochure addresses the
benefits of our practice, not just the features. Distribute the brochure as
often as possible.
- Send a welcome letter
to all new residents moving into our
community, which informs them of our practice and its services.
- Provide current reading material
in our reception room. Use
reading material to portray our image and our patients' interests. (e.g. if
you focus on cosmetic dentistry, use books with before and after pictures).
- Develop a patient newsletter.
This does not have to be flashy.
Update patients on new procedures, any courses you have taken, healthy
recipes, humorous anecdotes, etc. Just make sure it’s not all dentistry. Do
something to catch our patients' interest.
- Have a sticker made that says
"Compliments of DentalPride"
Put it on a toothbrush or toothpaste or any appropriate give-away item. The
message will emphasize the caring attitude we want to project. The words
"Compliments of .." help the patient feel a special bond with the giver.
- Provide personalized toothbrushes
to our patients. At every
recall appointment give patients a new toothbrush with our name and telephone
number printed on it.
- Develop a practice logo
that projects our image and makes you
easy to identify and remember. Use our logo consistently on all practice
stationery, office signs, brochures, business cards, etc.
- Conduct follow-up phone calls
to patients after treatment.
This one item alone is probably the single biggest practice builder of all
time!
- Develop "New Patient Kits" to
distribute to patients. The kit can include such items as a welcome letter,
informational pamphlets, patient newsletter, practice brochure, general health
information, personalized toothbrush, toothpaste, dental floss, etc.
- Print patient education information,
such as instructions for
handling a dental emergency, on the back of our business cards. You may feel
more comfortable about handing out our business cards and patients tend to
keep them.
- Provide a smile book in our reception
room so patients can see what
is available and helps them assess their own smile. Patients may be more
likely to discuss cosmetic procedures.
- Use statement stuffers
to communicate with our patients. This is
great for educating them on new procedures or cosmetic procedures such as
bleaching.
- Place a biography of each staff
member on a bulletin board in
our reception room. It allows patients to "meet" the staff before the actual
visit. It also can portray the dentist and staff as up-to-date and competent.
Build Patient
Relationships
Excellent patient
relationships help ensure that our patients talk about our practice and us
positively, leading to increased patient referrals and recommendations. The best
way to build relationships is by providing both expert dental work and friendly
personalized service. Listed below are some ideas to help build patient
relationships:
- Keep health related cookbooks
in our reception room and have blank recipe cards printed with our name on
them which patients can use to copy new recipes. We can also have a monthly
drawing of the cookbook.
- Be on time.
If you are running late, telephone our patients to let them know so they can
make changes in their own plans to reschedule, if necessary. You may also want
to develop and on time guarantee. Print the guarantee in our newsletter,
practice brochure and in our reception room.
- Take clinical photographs
of the patient’s teeth and let them see for themselves what their dental needs
are. Intraoral cameras are great for this purpose. You can also take after
pictures, place stickers with our practice name on the photos and give them to
the patient to take home.
- Provide a "toy box"
for adults, as well as children. Make sure our gifts fit our practice and
convey a message to our audience.
- Send a follow-up letter
after a new patient has been in to see you, expressing hope that the patient’s
initial visit was positive.
- Send a personalized thank you note
to every patient who refers a new patient to you. Send a gift to patients who
send a significant number of new patients.
- Send patients cards or notes
acknowledging special dates such as birthdays, weddings, graduations, etc.
- Maintain a bulletin board
with news about our patients and acknowledge accomplishments with a personal
note.
- Sponsor a local sports team,
providing uniforms with our name and practice logo.
- Offer to make a photocopy of a
magazine article
a patient is
reading and give the article to the patient to finish reading later. If the
article is in and older issue, give them the magazine.
- Conduct a patient satisfaction survey
to obtain input from patients on our practice.
- Offer to clean teeth of engaged
couples prior to their wedding
day. It is good for business and the future spouse may become a new patient.
Publicize the service in our newsletter.
- Follow-up with all our referral
sources after a patient visit.
One of the most important aspects in a referring relationship is a quick
report back to the referring professional.
- Track our referral sources.
Tracking referral sources will tell you who has stopped or reduced referrals
so you can take immediate action. It also tells you who is sending many
patients our way so you will be sure to maintain these relationships.
- Make new patients feel special.
When a new patient comes to the office, make sure they are introduced to all
the staff and given a tour of our office. After the initial visit, call the
new patient at home regardless of treatment performed.
- Provide free transportation
for those patients without cars either by bus pass, cab fare or have staff
pick up and deliver patients. If parking is a problem arrange for discounts in
local parking lots.
- Offer coffee, tea or other beverages
to patients waiting.
- Hold an open house
for patients to show off a new or old office, meet new staff or celebrate our
practice anniversary.
Connect With Our
Community
Community outreach
efforts and participation in community events generate awareness and visibility
of our practice in our local service area. The following indicate some
activities to assist us in connecting with our community:
- Volunteer to speak
before community groups, school groups, neighborhood associations, etc.
- Join civic organizations
and become involved.
- Introduce ourselves
to local pharmacists, optometrists, pediatricians, physicians and other
community healthcare providers and provide them with our business cards and
practice brochures.
- Write our home telephone number on
the back of our business card
for patients who have undergone extensive treatment. It is reassuring to know
we are available at all times.
- Send our newsletter to businesses
around you.
- Offer to make a noon time or after
hours presentation
to select
companies in our area on dental health.
- Participate in local health fairs.
Offer oral exams or other services to participants. Distribute practice
brochures, newsletters and business cards.
- Conduct a special event
to get to know the businesses in our area. The event may be a special
"business week." During the week offer a special service to the area
businesses. Develop flyers and have our staff deliver them to are businesses
so all employees receive the flyer. Include in the flyer the importance of a
good smile to a professional business image.
- Tie-in our practice promotion with a
charity.
For each new patient
who comes in during a particular time, donate our services to the needy. In
deciding the charity, we pick the one our market will like in addition to our
own personal preferences. Call up the head of the charity to present our idea.
See if the charity will promote our effort through their newsletter, and
public service announcements on radio, television and the print. Make sure we
send press releases to local media. For example, during Senior Smile Week
offer dental exams to seniors and then donate the money to a senior center in
our neighborhood.
- Send letters and brochures
or in person discuss our practice with apartment owners/concierge and
Realtors.
- Patronize our patient’s businesses
We take Pride in the
Quality of Care we Provide
